R2PRIS: “Radicalisation Prevention” at the 18th ICPA conference

The event engaged 450 attendees from 75 countries; over a hundred speakers have shared their knowledge and expertise with the participants of this conference, which hosted near seventy workshops and many roundtables.

Pedro das Neves, IPS’ CEO, has taken part in the 18th Conference of the International Corrections and Prisons Association (ICPA), which was organized with the support of The National Administration of Penitentiaries of Romania. The event took place between the 23rd and 28th October 2016, in the heart of the Romanian capital.

The theme of the conference was “Correctional Leadership – Engaging Hearts and Minds”, and it was in such framework that Mr. das Neves has made his presentation on the topic “Radicalisation Prevention in Prisons”.

In a session with more than 30 participants from 28 nationalities, Mr. Pedro das Neves presented the state of the art in radicalization prevention in prisons and shared the progression status and preliminary outputs of the R2PRIS project that had been launched in September 2015, and that will be concluded within 3-years time.

R2PRIS is spearheaded by BSAFE LAB (Beira Interior University), from Portugal; besides IPS_Innovative Prison Systems (PT), the partnership includes the participation of Universitatea De Vest Din Timisoara and National Prison Administration (RO), Ceza Ve Tevkifevleri Genel Mudurlugu (TK), the Belgian Prison Service, Directorate of Norwegian Correctional Service, ICPA and EuroPris European Organisation of Prison and Correctional Services
