The importance of dialog: DIACEN project’s 1st staff training event

The DIACEN project is based on the idea that dialogue is a powerful method in delivering adult education, and building a community around authentic dialogue has the potential to massively reduce recidivism rates.

Hosted by IPS_Innovative Prison Systems, the DIACEN project first short-term joint staff training event took place in Lisbon (Portugal), between November 13th and 17th, 2017.

Important topics were addressed, ideas and practices have been exchanged, such as the challenges in the implementation of pre-release programs, the importance of dialogue, and the different channels and methods that can be used to improve communication efficiency.

The event has had the participation of 14 practitioners from both prison and community organizations from several European jurisdictions, namely Italy, Poland, Portugal, and Romania. The participants were urged to engage in different activities aimed at fostering ideas and at exchanging practices which will ultimately result in the creation and organisation of a transnational community of practice (CoP).
